Welcome to the Old Greek Bible (OGB)
This Bible is not a
fresh translation nor does it maintain the exact Greek word order but seeks instead to provide its reader with a style of translation as literal as possible but with some concessions to readability and even to beauty. |
The "Old Testament"
The so-called “Old Testament” of this Bible is closely
based on Lancelot C. Brenton’s translation of the Septuagint. The
Septuagint, or translation of the Seventy, is itself a translation from
the Hebrew which took place in the 3rd century B.C.

The "New Testament"
The “New Testament” of this Bible is closely based on the
King James Bible, which uses the Textus Receptus as its source.
The term Textus Receptus refers to a group of extremely similar
Greek New Testament manuscripts.

Beloved Translations
Because Brenton’s and the KJV NT are both beloved
translations, little alteration has been made. There has been,
however, an attempt to unify the English text.

This Bible is not a new translation.
In the same way that the King James Bible was not a new translation but was built on its predecessors, so too was this built on previous versions. This book contains no Greek text but is a collection of scriptures translated into English from Greek. It contains no footnotes and no commentaries.
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the
dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him
shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the
Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that
call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved.
~Romans Chapter 10, 9-13 (OGB) (KJV)
In the coming weeks
In the coming weeks images, downloads, and audio recordings of the Old Greek Bible Version (OGB) will become available on, or through, this website. Keep an eye out for additions.
The OGB will always be free for download, but it is our desire to have "at cost" hard cover, paperback, and leather-bound editions available for purchase. Keep checking back for updated information.
Download Old Greek Daniel
Download a new translation of the Book of Daniel. This is not Brenton's translation, which was from Theodotian. The Greek source text for this translation is Alfred Rahlfs' Old Greek Daniel. This translation was completed in 2020 and is dedicated to the public domain.
